Printing from the VALT Lab Printer
- First, you need to make sure that you are on the Tufts CS network.
- No, being on the wireless network like Tufts-Guest does not count.
- There are two ways to be on the Tufts CS network
- Use VPN. To learn how to set it up, see the CS department user guide.
- Connect your computer to the network using an Ethernet cable.
- Chances are, this won't work because you need to register your computer's MAC address with the CS department.
- Alternatively, we have some pre-registered Ethernet-to-USB dongle somewhere in the lab.
- Lastly, you can use one of the computers around the lab
- Add the printer to your computer. The name of the color printer in the VALT lab is "hpremco.cs.tufts.edu". The name of the black-and-white printer on the 4th floor of 196 is "hp196ba.cs.tufts.edu"
- On a Windows machine, if the printer isn't automatically found, you will want to "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname"
- On a Mac, XXXXX
- Test your connection. The easiest way is to ping the printer by typing "ping hpremco.cs.tufts.edu". If you don't see any response, chances are you did not succeed in Step 1. So check your connection again.
